Extremely Rare Coin from Utah almost NO Trace of famous ghost town Mercur exists once nestled in the OQUIRRH mountains. Mercur was a mining town known for it production of 16 million dollars of gold ore and mining technology. It had a population of 6,000-12,000 people with saloons, gambling and a dance house beginning in 1869 hitting it's peak in 1873 and drying up in1874. By 1880 the buildings were gone and the mines abandoned. Mercur was destroyed and access forbidden by modern strip mining now owned by the Barrick Gold Company closed to the public. With only one significant part of history still open to visitors "The Mercur Cemetery". As frustrating as it is to a ghost town buff it was documented in "Mercur Miner Newspaper". Three papers were published starting November 1897 and ending January 6, 1904 under 'Miner Briefs' edition.
